Sports Injury and Recovery

Areas of the body that are damaged by acute sports injuries can be helped by acupuncture by further increasing the flow of oxygenated blood to the injured area, which helps speed the healing process.  Chronic injury–from repetitive use–can also be helped by acupuncture. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture points are utilized to address both the injury and bolster the patient’s constitution.  This helps to alleviate pain, decrease inflammation, restore mobility, and increase stamina.

Specific acupuncture styles and techniques were developed to stop pain and dramatically increase recovery time. This tradition continues today and its use has expanded into competitive athletics that result in similar injuries.  A 2008 study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that participants who received acupuncture for muscle soreness 24 and 48 hours after they exercised to exhaustion reported significantly less pain than people who didn’t receive the treatment.  Metapoint Acupuncture and Wellness can get you back training again–sooner, with less pain, and without the use of pharmaceutical drugs.
